Verdict: "Inception" came out 2 years after "The Dark Knight" and solidified Nolan's reputation as being one of the most marketable filmmakers of our times. When it comes to blockbusters, he's one of the best, there's no question about it. His movies are events awaited by millions of people and in terms of spectacle, he always delivers.
He's a director that knows how to take advantage of the theater experience to its fullest, and that's probably why I don't enjoy his films as much on a second watch. And "Inception" is no exception to that rule.
Is it grandiose? Absolutely. Is it entertaining? For the most part, yes. Is it technically well-made? Of course, it's Nolan. But is it the "complex" masterpiece that confused so many people due to its plot and time dilations within dreams? No, not one bit. In fact, it's one of those movies that only get worse with every rewatch, as you start noticing Nolan's signature cheesy dialogue and lack of real depth to either the characters or narrative. It's two and a half hours long, and boy did I feel that runtime in the film's second half which went on for far too long without really needing to.
I don't regret rewatching "Inception", but I don't feel the need to ever revisit it again. It's half fun, half dull. Half grandiose, half shallow. A good time at the theater with an interesting take on the heist genre, no more, no less.
