Verdict: Directed by Brandon Cronenberg (son of David), "Possessor" is a sci-fi/thriller that follows an assassin working for an organization that operates by taking over the bodies of other people and pushes them to commit the crimes for them.
While the concept itself is certainly intriguing and for the most part well-developed, there was definitely room for improvement in a movie that on many occasions threw its focus on shocking the audience with the use of practical effects aimed at recreating gory and bloody killings. These scenes of excessive violence felt unnecessary to the overall narrative and unfitting to its tone, which I have to say was a little too bland due to the film's uninteresting and dull color palette. It sometimes looks like a low-budget university project, with not much happening on a technical level despite a story that very much could've benefited from warmer colors and more lively shots.
Good performances and an interesting concept still make "Possessor" worth checking out. It may not be everybody's cup of tea and I can even imagine some people absolutely hating it, but I thought that it had enough going on to at least keep the viewers interested in what's going on. I probably won't be remembering much of it in the coming weeks, but there are definitely worse ways of spending a little over an hour an half.

FINAL GRADE: 6/10
