Verdict: "Last Crusade" is the final entry in the Indiana Jones franchise. Released 8 years after first, it sees the main hero ride off into the sunset and retirement from the archeology field. I'm glad that they knew when to stop and didn't pointlessly go for a fourth movie set 20 years after this one that ruins everything the series had build over the course of a decade. Can you imagine if Spielberg greenlit a film in which Indiana Jones is 60 years old and battling off Soviets to find the skull of an alien with the help of his son and atrocious CGI or something like that? I certainly can't and I'm happy we didn't reach that point of desperation.
Having said that, "Last Crusade" has always been my favorite out of the three because it combines the best elements of the previous two, making it a fun ride that isn't too ridiculous and not too dark. In this one, Indy's quest is more complex and personal than in the other two, as it sees the famous archeologist team up with his father, a man he's had a difficult relationship with, to find the Holy Grail before a group of Nazis. While the adventure itself is a lot of fun and benefits from having my favorite final act in the franchise, it's also supported by the chemistry shared between Indiana and his father, played by the legendary Sean Connery. Their interactions bring both humor and depth to a story that otherwise contains all the elements of an awesome adventure you'd want to take part in.
There's honestly not much else to be said about the franchise in general. It's my personal favorite adventure trilogy of all time and one I still find massively entertaining to this day. They're not movies that will make you think but they'll most definitely make you smile and cheer. If you don't mind a little cheese and 1980s punchlines in your movies, then definitely check all three of them out if for some reason you still haven't.

FINAL GRADE: 8/10
