Verdict: When asked what the most divisive movie of the decade is, most people will respond with either "The Last Jedi" (yup, I'm being serious) or "Mother!".
The film, which was nominated for 3 Razzies, scored a more than decent Metascore of 75%, but also received the worst possible rating of F on CinemaScore, which evaluates how mainstream audiences responded to it.
I personally adore the film's concept, which serves as one huge allegory on religion and the way it has affected humanity and the planet as a whole. A lot of people called it pretentious, but the truth is that I can't think of any other way to tell that particular, sensitive story. Javier Bardem and especially Jennifer Lawrence both give brilliant performances as The Poet and His Wife, two characters that are meant to represent God and Mother Earth.
The main issue I have with the film, however, is its presentation. Aronofsky famously wrote its first draft in only 5 days, and this can be seen in the final product. Something about it feels imperfect, and a bit of polishing would've come a long way. The CGI, on the other hand, was atrocious and truly took me out of the film whenever it was used.
Nevertheless, I still believe that "Mother!" draws similarities to films such as "A Space Odyssey", which was also bashed when it came out but is now considered a Masterpiece by the film community. It's a movie that is bound to become more appreciated as time goes by, and one I find fascinating with each viewing.

FINAL GRADE: 8/10
