Verdict: We've had films about haunted cameras, haunted car wheels, haunted tomatoes and even haunted operating systems. So it was only a matter a time before we got one about a haunted phone app. "Countdown" can be downloaded for free and after accepting the terms and services, will tell you the exact moment of the user's death. And yes, it's kind of funny.
I'm not entirely sure if director Justin Dec used a self-aware approach to that ridiculous concept, but "Countdown" certainly had scenes that were impossible to take seriously. Alongside the usual loud and cheap jumpscares and shallow, unlikable characters, the film attempted to my utmost pleasure to also act as a social commentary on our society's dependency on technology as well as... sexual harassment in the workplace? Everything was incredibly poorly handled, from the themes mentioned to the actual narrative that makes next to no sense and that is filled with golden line deliveries as well as absolutely ridiculous attempts at comedic moments. There's not much else to say, it's the usual horror flick aimed at adventurous teens who need something to do for an hour and a half, nothing more, nothing less.
On a separate note, the actual app can be downloaded on your phone. Apparently, I have a little more than 5 years left to live. Enough for the Fantastic Beasts franchise to wrap? I sure hope so.

FINAL GRADE: 2/10
