Verdict: Adam Driver season is upon us and I am here to witness it. The first of three films he's starring in released during award season tells the true story of Daniel Jones, played by Driver, as he leads a team of investigators tasked to shed some light into the controversial interrogation methods used by the CIA post 9/11.
While the story itself is interesting enough to justify a watch, I can't really say that I was wowed by the way it was presented. The movie felt incredibly flat and formulaic, which led to it feeling more like an adaptation of a Wikipedia article than a tense political drama similar to "Official Secrets", a film released earlier this year that deals with the same topics but in a much more efficient manner. Adam Driver, along with a supporting cast that includes names such as Annette Bening or Jon Hamm, while given roles that are not very demanding, do a decent job at portraying their respective characters and give them the depth needed to make them feel believable.
There's not much else to point out about "The Report", which is really my main issue with it. It can get a little cheesy and cliché at times, but otherwise I'd qualify overall as a very safe way of telling a very interesting story, which is frustrating more than anything else.

FINAL GRADE: 5/10
