Verdict: "Brittany Runs a Marathon" is pretty much exactly what you expect it to be. It's a light, harmless, feel-good film that falls victim to a familiar script, predictable jokes, cartoonish supporting characters, and a lot of cheese and clichés. It's not really the type of movie I usually connect to or find entertaining, and I can't really say otherwise about that particular one.
And that's too bad because for a while I was sort of invested in the main character of Brittany, played by Jillian Bell as I found her to be overall likable and to some extent relatable. Until she wasn't. The second half of the comedy canceled out what was a decent start in an unreasonable way that made her character less pleasant by the second. By the end of the film, I was even having a hard time rooting for her, which is always a bad sign when telling the story of an underdog.
Paul Downs Colaizzo's directorial debut, while colorful and for the most part well shot, isn't one that will make me run to check what he does next. If you look at the poster and think to yourself "Hey, that looks like something I could enjoy", then you probably will. But otherwise, I wouldn't put it at the top of your watchlist.

FINAL GRADE: 4/10
