Verdict: "In Fabric" is weird. Like really, really weird. And like most of A24's movies, I loved it.
The film is centered around a killer dress' haunting of the people who wear it (I told you, it's weird), and is directed by Peter Strickland, a filmmaker I'm not very familiar with. What immediately strikes the eye in the film is its very retro style. The editing and cinematography techniques do a magnificent job at giving a B-movie vibe, which fits extremely well the peculiar premise of a movie that could be described as stylish, hypnotic, unsettling, and very funny. The horror/comedy also benefits from having a very unique musical score that most certainly gave the film even more personality than it originally had. The argument of it having more style than substance could be made as the narrative told was pretty basic and done previously, but the extremely entertaining way it was achieved made it feel exceptionally refreshing.
"In Fabric" is not a movie for everyone, that's for sure, but it's damn unique and bold. It's both spooky and hilarious, and I personally had a blast with it. I'd recommend watching its trailer before giving it a go but if like me you're tired of the plague of pointless sequels and remakes threatening the Hollywood of today, definitely consider this one a must.
