This answer, uttered by Daniel Dae Kim's character in the closing minutes of the film, perfectly resumes what this reboot of "Hellboy" was.
Directed by Neil Marshall, most famous for directing "The Descent", the third live-action adaptation of the superhero is a departure from Guillermo Del Toro's vision and completely fails to capture what made the first two such cult classics.
Because this "Hellboy" was utterly soulless. It was a bad CGI-fest, nonsensical, poorly shot, poorly edited mess that clearly had a lot of behind-the-scenes issues. With David Harbour in the lead instead of the iconic Ron Perlman, the actor, most famous for portraying Jim Hopper in Netflix's "Stranger Things", was by far the film's best element. His take on the half-demon was very similar to Perlman's, with him adopting a loose and laid back personality that fit the character quite nicely. However, the comedic tone he brought to the movie was shattered by everything surrounding him, resulting in the movie coming off as extremely inconsistent tonally.
I honestly don't know what else to say about what probably is the worst superhero movie since Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four". I didn't care about the plot, I didn't care about the action, I didn't care about the two-dimensional characters, and I didn't care about the awkward attempts at humor. It's a disaster from start to finish that even Harbour's decent performance couldn't save, and I strongly hope that its failure will make the studio reconsider bringing back Del Toro for a potential sequel.
