Verdict: Starring Haley Lu Richardson and Cole Sprouse, "Five Feet Apart" is about an unlikely romance between two teenagers struck with life-threatening diseases.
Yes, the movie's incredibly cheesy, but that's in the genre's DNA. If you go in expecting anything else than a Nicholas Spark-like teen flick, you're definitely going to come out disappointed. But for what it wants to be, "Five Feet Apart" does a pretty decent job that kept most of the audience in the theater invested the entire time.
As for me, I usually do enjoy these types of romances when I'm in the right mood as long as they provide three crucial elements: likable characters, good chemistry, and an original idea. The first two aspects were pretty well done thanks to mostly good performances by Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse, and Moises Arias (the last two being most famous for their roles as Cody and Rico from the hit Disney Channel shows "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody" and "Hannah Montana", and I have to admit that it was fun seeing them together in the same movie after all these years).
My biggest complaint about the film was, however, the lack of original ideas it provided. I couldn't shake off the fact that the plot was very similar to 2014's "The Fault in Our Stars", and I can definitely see it getting lost in the never-ending list of similarly made films. The film was also a tad too long and did at a certain point overstay its welcome.
"Five Feet Apart" is not bad at all, and will most definitely satisfy moviegoers looking for a cheesy romantic flick. So if you're ever in the mood to watch one, definitely give it a shot!

FINAL GRADE: 5.5/10
