Verdict: Not at all a fan of the original Lara Croft starring Angelina Jolie, and having never played the popular game the movie is based on, I went in to watch “Tomb Raider” with pretty low expectations, expecting a less than decent action flick that I was probably going to forget in a week or two. And this is exactly what I got. Alicia Vikander took over the role of the heroine who, after her father mysteriously goes missing, is determined to finish what he started and find the tomb of an ancient Japanese emperor. Just like its predecessors, the movie checks all the boxes of a disposable action flick you’ve most likely seen a million times before. Add to that a poorly written script, topped with cheesy one-liners, dumb twists, and illogical decisions only made to serve the plot, and you get a very forgettable, and to some extent boring, flick. The only redeeming factor was Alicia Vikander in the titular role, who I very much enjoyed despite the poor material she was given. “Tomb Raider” confirmed once again Hollywood’s struggle to turn video games into blockbusters, which at this point is not really surprising anymore.

Final Grade: 3/10
